Kunzite is a pink to violet variety of the mineral spodumene, which is a pyroxene mineral with the chemical formula LiAlSi2O6. It gets its distinctive color from minor amounts of manganese within its crystal structure. Kunzite is a rare gemstone that is mostly found in pegmatites and high-temperature geological environments. Some of the most important sources of kunzite include Afghanistan, Brazil, Burma (Myanmar), Canada, Madagascar and the United States.
